Reflection on NETS-T Standard 1

http://www.iste.org/standards/nets-for-teachers/nets-for-teachers-2008.aspx

In standard one, it describes how teachers should teach students how to be creative and to think for themselves. Using technology in the classroom can promote students to explore things that are going on in the world around them.  Students should be able to use their abstract thoughts when using technology, which promotes creativity.  Technology is a great way for students to interact with other people.  As a teacher, we must use what we know to help teach students about different life experiences. We can advance students learning by telling them different subject matter and using technology in the classroom. Students learning and creativity can be achieved in either a face-to-face or a virtual environment. Today, students do so many different things on the computer. If we integrate technology in the classroom, it is a possible that the students would be more interested in what we are teaching. It is a proven fact that students pay more attention to the lesson if it is something they are really interested in. Social networking on the computer has to be the most popular thing for teenagers these days. If the teacher had a website for the students to communicate back and forth with other students using some kind of peer collaboration to do a project, the success or participation of the students would more than likely be higher. If we can relate to the students, they possibly can relate to the lesson.  Altogether, using technology can promote creativity and promote thinking among students.

  1. I agree that students can be creative while on the computer. There are so many websites that allow students to create and imagine things on their own, that the creativity is endless. We must encourage the students to think for themselves and be creative.

  2. I completely agree. As we learned in this class with the blog and the website, the possibilities are endless! Creativity is not limited in technology and it's important to encourage it.

  3. It is very important to provide students the freedom to be creative in the classroom. This allows for them to teach themselves things throughout the classroom and for you the teacher to not do all the teaching and lecturing to the students.

  4. I agree that a class website, blog, or social networking site would be great for class discussions. I feel as though it gives the students that don't necessarily speak up in class, the opportunity to speak their mind virtually. Not all students are as outspoken as others and this gives all students the opportunity to speak up without feeling inferior to others.

  5. I feel that letting children express themselves creatively would benefit them with critical thinking and help them to grow as individuals. I know that technology can be a useful tool to help children accomplish these goals.

  6. I really like your idea of a social networking for a peer project. Most students already use technology on their day to day like. Bringing it into the classroom is something that they will have fun with, while also learning.

  7. I believe social networking is very popular among young students today. It seems like everything is going cyber and a lot of communication is through the internet. Students are very interested in technology these days and I believe in the near future there will be more students involved with technology.
